    Hong Kong Style French Toast

    May 16 2020

Hong Kong Style French toast is like normal French Toast dressed up in its Sunday best. Brought by the British to Hong Kong, Hong Kong Style French toast combines two layers of thick white bread, stuffed with creamy peanut butter (Or add your favorite fillings–I combined peanut butter and Nutella). The sandwich is then dredged in egg and pan fried. If that isn’t rich enough for you, Hong Kong Style French Toast is topped with a generous pat of butter and golden syrup (feel free to substitute maple syrup or honey!). This delicious treat is typically eaten for a midday snack. But we recommend it anytime.

    Serves 4
    8 slices white bread
    4 eggs
    Peanut butter

    Anything you want!

Pour oil to about 1/4 inch in bottom of a skillet
Heat oil over medium heat until hot (you can test by dropping egg in or end of wooden chopstick.)
Meanwhile beat eggs in a shallow container that will hold bread slices
Cut the edges off the bread, making it square
Spread peanut butter on both slices of bread and close the sandwich
Beat the eggs in a dish and dredge the sandwich in the eggs on all sides until soaked in.
Move the sandwich to hot oil and fry each side until golden brown.
Using tongs or chopsticks, flip the sandwich onto the sides and fry each side until golden.
Transfer to paper towel to soak any extra oil
Move to a plate for serving.
Top with a pat of butter and syrup or honey.
