Maple Bourbon Apple crisp

Method

Preheat oven to 350. Peel, core and slice the apples. Toss well in a bowl with the other topping ingredients. Set aside.

Mix the oats, flour, sugar, chopped pecans and salt in a bowl. Melt butter in the microwave and add to the dry ingredients. Mix well.

Oil or butter the bottom of a 9 or 10-inch cast iron skillet. Place apples in the skillet along with any juices. Add topping on top and press around to spread evenly.

Bake at 350 for 45-50 minutes or until golden on top. Depending on the type of apples you use, they will stay intact and “toothy”.

Serve in small bowls with ice cream and caramel sauce if desired. ENJOY!

Tips for pecans:

Toast the pecans lightly before using for extra flavor. Also I placed them in a bag and whacked them with a rolling pin to “chop” them. Food processor works too.

Ice Cream and caramel:

Maybe over the top, but I like it! I prefer So Delicious cashew milk ice cream.

Prep ahead:

You could assemble the crisp and freeze it until you are ready to bake it. Thaw it completely before baking.
